A childhood spent on the water in his family’s sailing boat was probably the biggest influence on Sam’s choice of career that has led to him spending more than half his life as a professional sailor and competitor.
Back in Britain after some eight years of sailing across the Atlantic, he began training for regatta and offshore race gaining experience in a wide range of boats including the Class 40, IMOCA60 or Figaro classes as well as being part race and record winning teams.
With his experience and the fact that his is as comfortable offshore as racing around buoys, he joined Spindrift racing for the Transat Québec Saint-Malo in August 2016. His first race with the black and gold team and was also a victory. He has now been chosen by Yann Guichard to be part of the four-man crew for the M32, which will give him the opportunity to show his expertise as the team competes in the international events in the 2017 World Match Racing Tour.
